Ian Evatt has revealed Kieran Lee did not travel to Portugal with the rest of Bolton's first-team squad due to the impending birth of his third child.

Lee, who didn't feature for Wanderers in the closing months of last season after picking up a troublesome heel injury in February, has instead reported for pre-season training with the club's newly-formed B-Team at their Lostock base.

The attacking midfielder, who turns 34 on Wednesday, is expected to link up with the rest of the senior squad upon their return from the continent and should be available for upcoming friendlies.

Trotters boss Evatt has previously given the likes of Gethin Jones and Ricardo Almeida Santos leave for contrasting family reasons and he echoed his previous comments, saying Lee will be given as much time as he needs to adjust to his new routine.

"Family always comes first and good luck to him and his wife on the birth of their third child," Evatt told bwfc.co.uk.

"Kieran is fully fit and training with the 'B' team back home. He's doing his work and mirroring what we're doing here so we are happy squad-wise."

Evatt also provided positive news on Josh Sheehan and Lloyd Isgrove, who have both returned to full training after being sidelined since last November with respective injuries.

"Josh has been joining in the sessions and he will be almost like a new signing for us," Evatt added.

"Lloyd is back rehabilitating and it's great to have the squad together. The group is performing really well and we're excited."
