Mitchell Henry has confirmed he will depart Bolton at the end of the season after the club opted not to offer him a first professional contract.

Henry has been a regular for Wanderers' second-string this campaign and featured four times for the first-team in the Papa John's Trophy, adding to a solitary appearance in the same competition last season.

The 18-year-old had been named amongst the substitutes for a number of league fixtures prior to Christmas but failed to make it on to the field of play and that will prove to be as close as he will come, with a decision now made to sever ties with the rapid forward in the summer.

An official announcement has yet to be made but Henry took to social media to thank those involved in his development, as he prepares to bring a close to a six-year spell at the University of Bolton Stadium.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone involved in my journey at Bolton Wanderers over the last six years," Henry posted on Instagram.

"Unfortunately I was not successful in receiving a professional contract but the time feels right to embrace a new challenge elsewhere.

"I'd also like to thank all of the fans who supported me during my spell with the 1st team earlier this season.

"I wish everyone involved with this great club all the luck and success in the years to come."
