MJ Williams believes a lack of consistency could ultimately prove to be Bolton's downfall in the likely event they miss out on the play-offs.

Williams, who has made 58 appearances since joining Wanderers from Blackpool in February 2021, played his 37th game of the current campaign as the Trotters were beaten by Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

The result leaves Ian Evatt's side 10 points shy of the top-six with only eight games left to play and Williams, who has been a focal part of the first-team squad since his arrival from Bloomfield Road, admits he and his fellow players must continue to battle until the end.

"We've been really good at home," Williams told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"The fans have helped, really got behind us and we have been on a really good run but we have to dust ourselves down now and go again.

"Since the turn of the year we've been brilliant. We've had some great days here and some away from home as well.

"We've been pushing and we have to keep pushing now until the end of the season to pick up as many points as we can.

"Whatever happens this season we'll go into next season strong. There's still all to play for but we've just got to keep putting the points on the board and keep developing as a team.

"Every day we're in pushing each other and that's what we've got to do. We've got to keep pushing, keep putting in the performances and keep building as a team.

"That's what we've been doing ever since I've been here when we were in League Two. We had a great season that year.

"This season we've had some great times but we've got to be more consistent in getting the wins that we need.

"When we're playing against the big teams we need to take our chances because they don't come very often. We beat Sunderland 6-0 but we have to back that up and keep doing it.

"I'm sure it will come but we've got to stick together now and keep pushing as a team."
