Bolton are waiting to discover whether a heel injury sustained by Kieran Lee will keep him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Lee, who has scored six goals in 30 appearances for Wanderers this campaign, was substituted at half-time against Morecambe and subsequently rested for last week's home victory over Cambridge United.

He returned to the team for Saturday's win at Oxford United, only to be withdrawn just 20 minutes into the game at the Mazuma Stadium, where he was clearly seen pointing in the direction of his troublesome left boot.

Trotters boss Ian Evatt admits the 33-year-old will require surgery to correct the issue but will allow the player to consult a specialist to see whether that could be delayed until the summer months.

"Kieran will go and see a specialist about this heel spur he's got and we will see if we can get him through to the summer or not," Evatt told The Bolton News.

"It's not looking very promising. It's not a major issue - it's just something that needs shaving and sorting out, which will be a two to three month injury.

"So if he has that done now and he's not able to continue, then obviously we won't see him again until the summer.

"But we'll refer to the specialist, see what his advice is and go from there.

"We've all seen what a wonderful player Kieran is and what he gives us when he's fully fit. But injuries happen all the time and we've been dealing with them all season.

"The good thing now is that we've got players capable of playing in that position and taking his place - we've got some options.

"But Kieran Lee would be a miss for any team in this division."
