Ian Evatt has confirmed Nathan Delfouneso will leave Bolton when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Delfouneso, who joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Blackpool in August 2020, has scored 10 goals in 67 appearances for the club but was loaned to Bradford City on transfer deadline day after falling out of favour at the University of Bolton Stadium.

A former teammate of Evatt almost a decade ago, the 31-year-old's days with the Trotters had looked numbered for much of the campaign and the manager has now confirmed the reason behind Delfouneso's move to the Bantams was to provide him with a platform to earn a deal elsewhere in the summer.

"We have signed a lot of players in Nathan's position, so we felt it best that he go and play regular football and try and earn himself a contract for next season," Evatt told The Bolton News.

"He has six months left of his contract here and after that, he'll need to impress to get something somewhere else. That's just football.

"Obviously he has been a big part of what we have done here so far, and he was great last year. We wish him well, and we just move on."
