Bolton Wanderers have confirmed Josh Sheehan has had successful reconstructive surgery on his ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Sheehan suffered the injury in Wanderers' Emirates FA Cup first-round replay defeat at Stockport County in November and the initial prognosis was that he would likely be out of action for upwards of nine months.
The 26-year-old is no stranger to such a lengthy lay-off, having previously undergone surgery for a similar injury sustained whilst on loan at Newport County from Swansea City in 2016.
The Wales international went under the knife on Tuesday and will now be given a period of rest, before reporting regularly to specialists and medical personnel at the Trotters' Lostock training base.
