Ian Evatt has confirmed he turned down the opportunity to sign Viv Solomon-Otabor, who spent last week on trial at Bolton.

Solomon-Otabor, who made four substitute appearances during a loan spell with Wanderers in 2017, had been without a club since his departure from Wigan Athletic in the summer and has since gone on to join Scottish side St Johnstone on a short-term deal until January.

Evatt says a decision was made on the 25-year-old prior to an injury which could sideline Lloyd Isgrove for the next three months, but admits he is happy to wait until the opening of the transfer window before adding to his depleted squad.

"The problem we have - and it is a problem - is by the time you get the lads who have not had clubs up to speed, it's January," Evatt told The Bolton News.

"That is why we decided against Viv, and it was before Lloyd went down, so we might have made a different decision knowing what we know now.

"I think we are that close to January now, if we took that option now it would take a long time to get them up to speed so we need to bite the bullet a little bit and get through to the window."
