Oladapo Afolayan will be hit with a one-match suspension if he is booked in Bolton's League One encounter with Doncaster Rovers.

Wanderers host Rovers at the University of Bolton Stadium on Tuesday night with just 13 senior outfield players available for selection, after the club was rocked by long-term injuries to names such as Josh Sheehan, Amadou Bakayoko and MJ Williams.

Williams, had he been in contention to feature, would have found himself in the same predicament as Afolayan, who enters the midweek fixture with four yellow cards against his name in league competition so far this campaign.

Current Premier League and EFL rulings state players who accumulate five cautions up to and inclusive of their team's 19th league outing will be hit with an automatic ban, with anybody reaching that same milestone beyond the cut-off point remaining eligible - unless they pick up 10 yellow cards by the time 37 games have been completed, which would result in a two-match suspension, or 15 yellows by the end of the regular season, resulting in a three-match ban.

Afolayan was booked in games against Sunderland, Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth Argyle and Gillingham earlier in the campaign, but has since gone six matches without incident in all competitions.
