Josh Sheehan has taken to social media to thank Bolton fans for their support, after it was confirmed he had suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

Sheehan picked up the injury in Wednesday's Emirates FA Cup defeat at Stockport County this past Wednesday and has since been ruled out for up to nine months as he is given time to complete the rehabilitation process.

It is the second such injury of Sheehan's career, having suffered another rupture whilst on loan at Newport County from Swansea City in 2017, and the 26-year-old has vowed to come back better than before.

"Can't believe I'm writing this but unfortunately I've injured my ACL and will be out of action for a long period of time," Sheehan posted on Twitter.

"I've been through this before and will get through this again with the support of my family, friends and team mates.

"I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and this is just a minor setback. I will be back bigger, better and stronger.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone at Bolton and the fans. You've been unbelieveable with me and my family since the day I arrived and I can't wait to be playing back in front of you again."
