Ian Evatt felt Bolton's defeat at Wycombe Wanderers was 'harsh', believing his players produced a much-improved display from their midweek loss at Stockport County.

Sam Vokes scored the only goal with 18 minutes to play at Adams Park as the Trotters slumped to a second reversal in the space of four days.

Having lost Josh Sheehan and Amadou Bakayoko in the build-up to the league clash against the Chairboys, MJ Williams was forced off in the second period with a dislocated shoulder and Evatt has called for a united front as he looks to lead the club through to the January transfer window.

"It's harsh but the most pleasing thing, aside from the result, is we showed we can do the ugly side better than what we did on Wednesday," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"On Wednesday we were distraught and disappointed with the performance. Today was much more like it against a team that has just come down from the Championship.

"I think it was a really harsh defeat. I don't think either team really deserved to lose the game but we had some really good moments and two or three big chances that we really should have taken.

"We've shown that we're together and are competing. We were all disappointed on Wednesday but that's now gone and we have to focus on the here and now.

"We've got a huge injury list and people are going down with serious injuries all the time. We've got what we've got until January and for now we have to batten down the hatches and stick together as a group, stick together as a club and hopefully get the support of the fanbase to charge us on.

"This is challenging but in times of adversity, we should really show what this football club is all about. We'll keep fighting, keep scrapping and hopefully with two big home games coming up we can get some points on the board.

"I thought (today) was a really good performance and we're gutted but we're not going to feel sorry for ourselves. We need to get ready for a big game on Tuesday night."
