Gethin Jones has given his thanks to all who turned out for a charity fixture held to raise funds for his mother's battle against motor neurone disease.

13,187 were in attendance at the University of Bolton Stadium on Sunday as a who's who of players from yesteryear lined up against their present-day counterparts - with Wanderers boss Ian Evatt taking centre stage with a second-half hat-trick.

Jones, who couldn't feature due to injury, labelled Bolton as a 'family club' following the final whistle and took time to thank players, staff and supporters for all their support during what has been a difficult four months since his mother's diagnosis in July.

"It's been amazing to get 13,000 fans here," Jones told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"It's a nice touch for my mum and I just wanted to show her the support she's getting from Bolton because it's a proper family club and it was a really good afternoon.

"This will help massively and we want to thank the club so much for everything that they have organised this weekend. It's been amazing.

"The whole family have said 'what a club' for me to be at. All the support they've given to us has been incredible and I can't thank them enough.

"Getting the big legends back - it was good for the fans to see them. You had Paddy McGuinness as an assistant manager and Sam Allardyce, who's been a manager. I can't thank them enough for coming here and showing their support.

"From the gaffer (Ian Evatt), all the staff, Sharon (Brittan) and all my teammates, they've been incredible since day one. I can't thank them enough, they've been really good support for me."
