Bolton will guarantee their progression through to the knockout stages of the Papa John's Trophy, providing they avoid defeat at Rochdale.

Wanderers head to the Crown Oil Arena on Tuesday evening looking to advance with a perfect record of three wins out of three for the first time since the competition was restructured in 2016.

Two time finalists and former winners of the tournament - having won the Trophy back in 1989 - the Trotters will almost certainly line up with changes from the team that was beaten at Portsmouth on Saturday.

Ian Evatt made 10 changes for the victory against Liverpool U21 at the start of October and could make a similar decision against Dale, with the likes of Harry Brockbank, Liam Gordon and George Thomason set to feature.

Liam Edwards featured in the reserves' defeat at Preston North End last week and could get a taste of first-team football for the first time since January 2020, while Brandon Comley will come in from the dark with his ineligibility from league fixtures not applicable to the Papa John's Trophy.

Xavier Amaechi is said to be around a fortnight away from his return from a broken foot, leaving Gethin Jones, Andrew Tutte and Finlay Lockett as the only long-term absentees.
