Andrew Kitchen will referee Tuesday's Papa John's Trophy tie between Rochdale and Bolton at the Crown Oil Arena.
Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday, while Dale were 2-1 winners at Barrow that same afternoon.
Kitchen, who will take charge of the game, has officiated 11 matches so far this season - issuing 32 yellow cards and one red.
His most recent outing was on October 30, when he was the man in the middle for Fleetwood Town's 3-3 draw with Wycombe Wanderers in League One. The Durham official brandished four yellow cards at Highbury Stadium, three of which went to members of the visiting side.
In his first season as an EFL official, Kitchen has never previous taken charge of either side.
