Bolton Wanderers have confirmed nine banning orders have been issued to home supporters following the recent defeat to Wigan Athletic.

Wanderers and Latics were quick to issue statements in the immediate aftermath of the fixture, pledging to work alongside Greater Manchester Police to identify those involved in crowd trouble both inside and outside of the University of Bolton Stadium.

Home spectators, who had seen a number of smoke bombs thrown in their direction in the early stages of the game, were later seen throwing objects in the direction of visiting players as they celebrated goals, while a number of travelling Wigan fans located in the upper tier of the South Stand removed advertising hoardings before dropping them into the rows below.

Latics are expected to release a statement of their own in due course, but Trotters CEO Neil Hart says the club had no alternative but to take appropriate action against those responsible.

"Disorder and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated at the University of Bolton Stadium and these steps show that we will take action," Hart told

"There also remains a long-term plan to identify further individuals responsible for anti-social actions and offences.

"This will continue throughout the season with BWFC working alongside partner agencies and Greater Manchester Police to ensure incidents seen at previous fixtures are eradicated and to ensure that supporting and watching Wanderers is a safe and enjoyable experience."
