Antoni Sarcevic has taken to social media to thank Bolton Wanderers supporters, hours after he left the club to complete a shock move to Stockport County.

While the reasons behind his departure from the University of Bolton Stadium aren't yet known, speculation was rife on Twitter throughout Friday that the captain had been involved in a falling out with manager Ian Evatt in the aftermath of Tuesday's defeat at Plymouth Argyle.

The truth behind the 29-year-old's switch is likely to emerge in the coming days but Sarcevic had nothing but kind words to say, saying his time with the armband was the proudest of his career.

"Believe me when I say it was the proudest moment being captain of this club and the memories made in that season will stay forever," Sarcevic posted on Instagram.

"To you amazing fans who have wrote to me and ones who have just been brilliant, thanks for everything.

"Thanks for all the support and I wish you all the success going forward.

"The sport is brutal and can be out of your control. Love Sarce x."
