Bolton could be without injured defender Gethin Jones until January, after scans on his fractured fibula came back worse than expected.

It had been hoped Jones, who has missed the last two games, which has seen Wanderers ship a total of seven goals, could be back in action within a matter of weeks but specialists have deemed the prognosis to be more serious than initially anticipated.

The Trotters will seek a second opinion on the 26-year-old's recovery time, with manager Ian Evatt revealing the full-back will be sent for further scans.

"It isn't great to be honest," Evatt told The Bolton News. "He saw a specialist yesterday and the diagnosis was worse than we wanted to hear or expected.

"We are going to get further scans, bone density scans, to find out the true extent but if we are going off the prognosis that was given to us yesterday we won't see him again until January.

"It's an injury more commonly seen in marathon runners - which you could argue our full-backs need to be.

"It is just an over-use injury which has turned into a stress fracture, which is quite nasty, and takes time to heal, especially the load that needs to go through that bone with the running mechanics.

"We are hopeful that we can get a second prognosis and it will be better."
