Ian Evatt labelled Bolton's performance against Plymouth Argyle as 'naive', saying his players failed to adapt to the difficult weather conditions.

Torrential rain hit the Devon area in the hours leading up to kick-off, while the playing surface in the latter stages of the second-half became waterlogged as both teams struggled to play a passing game - leading to a comical third goal on a miserable evening for the visiting Wanderers.

Speaking after the game, Evatt admitted his plan was to utilise the strength of Amadou Bakayoko in a more direct approach at Home Park but said his players failed to take advantage of the forward's presence.

"We were so naive," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube. "That's the keyword for tonight.

"The conditions were awful and we were against the wind in the first-half, but we're still trying to play out and were inviting pressure. Two set-pieces later we're 2-0 down and fighting an uphill battle.

"Second-half we had the conditions in our favour, had good moments and opportunities but once again didn't take them.

"Arguably, we had the better opportunities and chances in the game but we didn't take them and that's not good enough.

"Then their last goal is absolutely comical in that we're still trying to play out in conditions where the pitch is borderline unplayable.

"We have to identify the conditions as a team. Not the staff, but the team that are playing out in it and recognise where we're getting joy.

"Tonight, we played (Amadou) Bakayoko for those reasons. The fact that he's more physical, can win headers, win duels and battles, but we didn't utilise it because we're too busy playing short in conditions which aren't conducive to playing short.

"We have to have better game understanding and management to play what the game gives you. It might not be how we want to be and how we want to play moving forwards but you have to find different ways to win games.

"We're not helping matters because we're conceding first and early in games. Because we're not taking chances, all of a sudden it gives everybody a wobble and we lack belief and confidence.

"That's just the way it's going for us at the moment. We're on a bad run but we have to work really hard to get out of it."
