Charles Breakspear to Referee Bolton v Wigan Athletic

Charles Breakspear will referee Saturday's Sky Bet League One fixture between Bolton and Wigan Athletic at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday, while Latics were beaten 2-0 at Crewe Alexandra in the Papa John's Trophy the previous Tuesday.

Breakspear, who will take charge of the game, has officiated 12 matches so far this season - issuing 54 yellow cards and two red.

His most recent outing was on October 9, when he was the man in the middle for Bristol Rovers' 3-0 victory over Carlisle United in League Two. The Surrey official branished 10 yellow cards at the Memorial Stadium, six of which went to members of the beaten visitors.

Breakspear's last match in charge of Bolton was in December 2020, when they were beaten 3-0 by Tranmere Rovers in a League Two clash at the University of Bolton Stadium. He kept his cards in his pocket on that occasion.

The last time he refereed a Wigan fixture was on April 24, when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Burton Albion in a League One encounter at the DW Stadium. One player went into the book that afternoon - Albion midfielder Joe Powell.
