Gethin Jones will miss Bolton's upcoming League One fixture against Wigan Athletic after being hit with a one-match suspension.
Jones, who has featured in 14 of Wanderers' 15 games in the early part of the season, picked up his sixth yellow card of the campaign in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.
In previous years, the first trigger for a ban would have been activated when a player reached five cautions - regardless of the competition in which they were received.
In a slight amendment to those rules, bookings are now competition-specific and with Jones' yellow at Hillsborough being his fifth in League One action, he will therefore sit out next weekend's clash with the Latics.
The cut-off point for players accumulating five yellow cards is 19 games, leaving Ricardo Santos and MJ Williams perilously close to suspensions of their own - with Wanderers still having seven matches to play before reaching that particular milestone.
