Ian Evatt felt Bolton were below-par against Shrewsbury Town but was happy to pick up three points at the end of a difficult week.

Antoni Sarcevic and Oladapo Afolayan were on target as Wanderers beat Salop 2-1 at the University of Bolton Stadium, registering back-to-back wins after Tuesday's success at Charlton Athletic - a game which was played just three days after another long journey to Sunderland.

Speaking after the final whistle, Evatt admitted signs of fatigue were visible in his players, who he praised for pushing into an early lead which would prove vital at the end.

"It was a strange game," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube. "I think we looked tired and jaded.

"We put a lot into getting ourselves ahead in the game and then because we were having a lot of joy and it almost became a little bit too easy, we took our foot off the gas and they grew into it.

"Credit to them. The atmosphere went out of the stadium. We were passing it from side to side but not really affecting them, then they had a couple of moments.

"They are the type of team who are never really out of the game because of the way they play. It's difficult to play against. They're physical, direct, good from set-plays, and they worked us today.

"After two long away journeys, the boys were jaded and we were carrying a few knocks as well, but we managed to get it over the line.

"We scored two fantastic goals and the penalty save was also outstanding. I also thought our two centre-backs were outstanding.

"We're delighted with the win because they're a difficult team to play against. Regardless of their league position, we've seen some of their games and they've been in a lot of them.

"After tough away games and winning, you want to back that up. These long trips, when you return at 4:30-5 in the morning, it has a knock-on effect. We put a lot in at Sunderland and on Tuesday at Charlton, but we'll refresh and go again next week."
