Ian Evatt has no concerns over Bolton's form, after a 1-0 loss at Sunderland consigned them to back-to-back defeats for the first time in 2021.

Carl Winchester scored the only goal at the Stadium of Light as the Black Cats maintained their early-season push for promotion, while Wanderers failed to score in a league game for the fourth time in their last five outings.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Evatt insisted performance levels remain high amongst his Trotters players and he is in no doubt that results will soon follow.

"For whatever reason, the football Gods weren't with us today," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"I'm so proud of them. To come here and play like that is exceptional and a reminder of how far we've come.

"I said in the week that this (Sunderland) is a really big football club with high expectations but so are we and we weren't coming here inferior in any way.

"In the first-half, we were getting on top and the goal kind of knocked us. After that, we had moments and they had moments but we knew there was more from us. It was quite an even game.

"In the second-half, we have completely dominated. We found solutions, passed through their press, created lots of opportunities and just couldn't take them.

"But I think we all have to be proud of what the players have achieved and we can't get downbeat. This is a really tough run of games - a real big test - but we're competitive.

"Sometimes it's easy on the back of two defeats to get downbeat and think about what we could have done and what we need to do better, and also do we need to change, but the answer is no. A lot of what we're doing is right, it's very good.

"It's just the final details but I hope everyone is proud because I'm super-proud, even though we've lost.

"I've told the players that I don't want to hear any negativity. I just want to hear positives from what we've done today.

"Show me another team in League One that can do that to them. I can tell you for a fact that no one has and no one did last season, either.

"That's what we're capable of. We can play through the press. It takes bravery and, at times, in this stadium and against that atmosphere, you have to be even braver and bolder.

"We were today. We showed great character, great courage, great personality with the ball. We dominated the second-half but just couldn't score but things can only get better.

"We can't feel sorry for ourselves because we've been on the rough end of a couple of bad results. I think our supporters know we're competitive.

"I think they'll be proud of us. You only had to listen to the way our fans sang for the whole second half to virtual silence. Their fans were getting ratty, annoyed with the dominance we were showing, but we just couldn't get that goal."
