Ian Evatt believes Bolton were worthy opponents for Rotherham United and put his team's 2-0 defeat down to weakness at set-pieces.

Ben Wiles scored a quickfire first-half brace to give the Millers three points at the University of Bolton Stadium, as Wanderers slipped to their first loss on home soil this season

Speaking after the game, Evatt couldn't hide his disappointment at the final score but admits he saw enough from his players not to be downbeat ahead of next Saturday's trip to Sunderland.

"I'm a bit disappointed," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube. "I think we've lost the game on two set-plays.

"We spoke a lot during the week about set-plays and how they can win and lose you games. Today, a throw-in and a corner has won them the game.

"But the way we've played in general, we dominated and had many chances but just couldn't score. If we'd have got one it might have been slightly different.

"It just wasn't our day and that's the harsh realities of football. Last week we took most of our chances, and this week we had lots but didn't take them.

"We're not going to get too down. We've performed well, I believe.

"Rotherham are a high-intensity, pressing team. Their assistant manager has said to me that they didn't mean to back off in the second-half, but they had no choice because of how good we were with the ball.

"He also said that we were the best team that they have played, so we have to take credit from that. Obviously we're disappointed to lose but we'll go again next week.

"The game was very high intensity and quality, especially in the first-half, and we've conceded from two set-plays that knocked the wind out of us.

"Eoin (Doyle) hit the post and we've had one or two other opportunities where if we'd scored we would have had our tails up. The fans would have been behind us and we'd have got back in it but it wasn't to be."
