Ian Evatt believes Bolton's crushing victory at Ipswich Town was the perfect response to Monday's goalless draw with Burton Albion.

A brace from Oladapo Afolayan, an Eoin Doyle penalty, followed by strikes from both Josh Sheehan and George Johnston gave Wanderers a first league victory at Portman Road since 2001, on an afternoon where the Trotters hit five goals on the road for the first time since March 2014.

Speaking after the game, Evatt referred back to his team's performance against Burton and praised his players for their clinical display, which came about after they had initially fallen behind inside five minutes.

"It's a fantastic result and I'm really pleased with that," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"That was coming. There was some frustration possibly from the first goal - we felt it was a foul - and frustration certainly from Monday.

"We felt we deserved to win the game on Monday but today we were ruthless, clinical and some of our play and goals were as good as you'll see at any level.

"I've said all along that this squad has great character, great courage and great togetherness. There's a lot of glue that has been formed over a period of time and adversity. We've had more adversity this week with Elias (Kachunga) and we've come together as a group. I'm so proud of that performance.

"We'd not won here in 20 years so I'd glad that we've broken another hoodoo but it's about what we do and our performance levels. We have firm belief.

"We have a really tough month coming up with some really difficult games against good teams with good players, but we've had a good start. Monday was a good performance but we have to keep building.

"I've said to the players that I hope they go home tonight and don't feel like we've cracked it. I hope they're going home tonight thinking we want more. If we stick together, keep working hard, keep listening and learning, then we've got a chance.

"We'll enjoy tonight. We'll enjoy the trip home, it's a long way, and then we'll go again on Monday."
