Bolton have submitted a 20-man squad list to the EFL, from which they will select during the first-half of the campaign.
Under current EFL rules, clubs in League One and League Two are able to register a maximum of 22 outfield players over the age of 21, with goalkeepers and contracted under-21 players not included in the total.
With only 20 places occupied, Trotters boss Ian Evatt will be able to add a further two individuals should he so wish, with free agents eligible to sign for new clubs outside of the transfer window.
Included in the Bolton squad is Liam Edwards, who hasn't featured in a competitive game since January 2020 because of injury, but there is no place for Brandon Comley, who may yet be granted permission to join a non-league club on loan.
Comley will be eligible to feature in the Papa John's Trophy, however, with Wanderers next in action against Liverpool U21 on October 5.
