Joshua Smith will referee Monday's Sky Bet League One fixture between Bolton and Burton Albion at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 3-2 victory over Port Vale in the Papa John's Trophy last Tuesday, while the Brewers were beaten 2-1 at home by Milton Keynes Dons in the same competition that very evening.

Smith, who will take charge of the game, has officiated five matches so far this season - issuing 14 yellow cards and one red.

His most recent outing was on August 21, when he was the man in the middle for Ipswich Town's 2-2 draw with MK Dons in League One. The Bedfordshire official brandished three yellow cards at Portman Road, two of which went to members of the home side.

Smith's last match in charge of Bolton was in February 2020, when they were held to a goalless draw by Accrington Stanley in a League One clash at the University of Bolton Stadium. One player went into the book that afternoon - Wanderers defender Kean Bryan.

The last time he refereed a Burton fixture was on April 20, as they were beaten 1-0 by Lincoln City in a League One encounter at the Pirelli Stadium. Two players were cautioned that evening - Albion duo Terry Taylor and Mike Fondop-Talom.
