Ali Crawford is set to be handed a career lifeline, having agreed to join Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on loan until January.

Crawford, who joined Wanderers on a free transfer from Doncaster Rovers in September 2019, is out of favour at the University of Bolton Stadium and has yet to feature in any competition so far this season.

The 30-year-old made a bright start to his Trotters career, scoring twice in his first 11 appearances, before spending four months on the sidelines with a cruciate ligament injury suffered in a Trophy tie against Manchester City in October 2019.

He returned to play another five times before the curtailment of the 2019/20 campaign, but struggled for form following club's relegation to League Two and subsequent appointment of Ian Evatt as manager.

Crawford spent the second-half of last season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, where a permanent move failed to materialise, and he is now set for a return to Scotland - four years after his departure from Hamilton Academical.

The move is due to be made official on Tuesday, giving Crawford 11 days to prepare himself for a potential home debut against Rangers.
