Bolton will look to recover from their Carabao Cup exit by continuing an unbeaten start to the league campaign at Cambridge United on Saturday.

After marking their return to League One with back-to-back 3-3 draws, followed by victories over Lincoln City and Oxford United - with a Carabao Cup victory over Barnley also sandwiched in there - Wanderers were narrowly edged out at the DW Stadium on Tuesday as Wigan Athletic beat them on penalties following a goalless draw over the 90 minutes.

Trotters boss Ian Evatt has made no secret of his desire to push for a second successive promotion this season and thus, with one eye on the weekend trip to the Abbey Stadium, made eight changes in midweek in a bid to keep his playing squad fit and healthy.

Although a number of first-team regulars dropped to the substitutes' bench for that tie, two major absentees were MJ Williams and Lloyd Isgrove.

The midfield duo were left nursing minor injuries after last Saturday's victory over Oxford United and with the likes of Xavier Amaechi and Amadou Bakayoko already sidelined long-term, the manager admitted he didn't want to take any unnecessary risks.

One player yet to feature since his summer arrival is Will Aimson, who is set to resume full training on Friday ahead of next week's Papa John's Trophy clash with Port Vale.

Declan John, Ricardo Santos, Gethin Jones, Antoni Sarcevic, Eoin Doyle and Joel Dixon will all be hoping to earn recalls after sitting out in midweek.
