Ronan Darcy has signed a contract extension at Bolton, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2023.

Darcy, who recently entered the final 12 months of his previous deal with Wanderers, has been at the club since the age of eight and made a total of 34 senior appearances in all competitions - scoring two goals.

The 20-year-old is due to complete a loan move to Norwegian second-tier side Sogndal where it is hoped he will gain regular first-team experience, but Darcy admits the prospect of remaining at the University of Bolton Stadium in the long-term is something that excites him.

"I am delighted to have signed an extension here at Bolton Wanderers," Darcy told "The fans and everyone around me know how much this club means to me.

"Having been at the club since I was eight, to be offered the chance to extend my stay here was something I could not refuse. I cannot wait to see what the future holds because the club is only going in one direction and I'm so happy to be a part of that.

"But for now I need to get back out playing week in week out because it's what's right for me and hopefully the lads can have an enjoyable season for everyone to watch.

"It's been a bit of a rollercoaster couple of years for us all, but gaining promotion last season was something I want to continue to experience and be a part of.

"Hopefully, I can continue to develop and help the team rise through the leagues until we get to where we know we should be competing.

"I will give everything I have until we get there and look forward to the journey."
