Familiar foes will meet in the second round of the Carabao Cup, with Bolton set to face Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

Wanderers, who last appeared at this stage in 2017, progressed from their first-round tie with Barnsley on Tuesday after winning 5-4 on penalties following a goalless draw at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Latics also needed a shoot-out to book their place in round two, beating Hull City 8-7 from 12 yards after they had played out a 1-1 draw at the KCOM Stadium.

The near neighbours have previous in the competition, with the Trotters winning just one (L2) of three prior meetings - yet still losing out over two legs back in the 1987/88 campaign.

The most recent clash came back in December 2005, when a brace from Jason Roberts saw Wigan progress en route to a final which would ultimately see them lose to Manchester United.
