Oladapo Afolayan scored the only goal as Bolton won at Barrow, making it four victories from five in a so-far unbeaten pre-season.
After increasing the number of playing minutes the majority of his players received in a midweek success against Preston North End, Wanderers boss Ian Evatt made similar decisions at the Progression Solicitors Stadium as plans for the opening-day clash with Milton Keynes Dons begin to take shape.
The game's only goal arrived five minutes before the break as Eoin Doyle, who wasn't included last time out, linked up well with Afolayan on the edge of the box, allowing the latter to bury a shot into the bottom corner.
The day's other major talking point came midway through the second period as Afolayan was withdrawn, with Dennis Politic entering a field of play for the first time since suffering a knee ligament injury at Loughborough University 11 months ago.
Bolton's final pre-season friendly takes place next Saturday when Blackburn Rovers are the visitors to the University of Bolton Stadium.
