George Johnston headed a late equaliser as Bolton came from behind to remain unbeaten in pre-season with a 1-1 draw at FC United of Manchester.

Wanderers, who had emerged victorious from games at both Longridge Town and Atherton Colllieries over the course of the past week, once again named two largely separate teams for each half at Broadhurst Park as manager Ian Evatt looks to carefully manage the minutes each of his players receive.

With temperatures approaching the 30-degree mark, the tempo of the game was perhaps a little slower than usual and the officials had granted permission for a drinks break midway through each period.

The visitors had the ball in the net inside the first 45 minutes as Antoni Sarcevic volleyed in from close range, but the referee's assistant raised a flag for an offside against the Trotters captain after the ball had ricochet kindly into his path.

Although the first-half ended goalless, the deadlock was broken moments after the restart as substitute goalkeeper Joel Dixon was caught in possession inside his own area and an FC United trialist had the simple task of sliding the ball into an empty net.

Finlay Sinclair-Smith came close to doubling the advantage in the latter stages, breaking clear of Harry Brockbank down the left-hand side before seeing his shot across the face of goal strike the inside of the post before rolling back into the gloves of Dixon.

That miss would prove costly as, with the last act of the game, Ronan Darcy's cross to the far post was headed back across goal by Adam Senior and Johnston was correctly placed to head in from close range.
