Ian Evatt will no longer be taking his Bolton squad to a pre-season training camp in Scotland, it has been confirmed.

As the first week of training at their Lostock base comes to a close, Wanderers were due to travel to the outskirts of Edinburgh this coming weekend as the manager attempts to bed his new players into the style and culture of the club.

With ever-changing government advice initially leaving the entire trip in doubt, Trotters chiefs only received clarification that they could make the journey on Wednesday but, after encountering problems receiving permission for catering, media and other behind-the-scenes staff, Evatt has decided to pull the plug and make alternative arrangements.

"We decided to cancel the trip," Evatt told The Bolton News. "It is going to cost the board a hell of a lot of money and when we were only told on Wednesday that the restrictions were going to be lifted it was just too late.

"Also, we don't want to go there and become a political tool. I'd rather just go under the radar and get on with our own work.

"We've decided against the trip and made alternative plans. It is what it is but we're delighted with where the players are right now."
