Bolton have completed the signing of Joel Dixon on a free transfer after he rejected the offer of a new contract at Barrow.

Dixon, who came through the academy system at Sunderland, has signed a two-year deal at the University of Bolton Stadium and is expected to compete alongside Matt Gilks for the number-one jersey this coming season.

The 27-year-old had made a total of 195 appearances in all competitions across the past six seasons at Barrow - 67 of which came under Ian Evatt during his stint as Bluebirds boss between 2018 and his switch to the Trotters in 2020.

Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after his move had been made official, Dixon said: "It's a new chapter in my career and I'm looking forward to starting. The size and stature of the club and where it wants to get back to is perfect for me.

"I have worked with the gaffer before at Barrow and I cannot wait to get started here."

Adding to Dixon's comments, Evatt said: "Joel is a player who has played a lot for me and is someone I know and trust.

"He will provide good competition in the goalkeeping department and will never let anybody down.

"He's a consistent footballer and a consistent character both on and off the pitch."
