Bolton's academy system continues to thrive, with news coming out of the club that midfielder Jay Fitzmartin has signed a first professional contract.
Fitzmartin, who has been with Wanderers since the age of 11, has progressed through the youth ranks at the University of Bolton Stadium and made his senior debut as a substitute in an EFL Trophy tie against Bradford City in September 2019.
The 18-year-old hasn't featured under Keith Hill or Ian Evatt since but has shown enough at under-18 level to prove he is worthy of an opportunity next season as the club looks to re-establish some form of under-23 or reserve squad.
Formerly of Eastleigh Juniors and Atherton Town, Fitzmartin is one of four scholars to have been offered a deal and it is hoped Finlay Lockett, Ryan Colvin and Luke Hutchinson will follow by the end of the month in order for them to settle for the start of pre-season training.
