Matt Gilks has no immediate plans to hang up his gloves, with the Bolton goalkeeper signing a new 12-month playing contract at the club.

Gilks, who initially joined Wanderers as goalkeeping coach following Ian Evatt's appointment as manager last summer, emerged from semi-retirement to make 35 appearances this past season as the Trotters secured automatic promotion to League One.

The 39-year-old was credited with having played a key role in Bolton's resurgence following the New Year and he says the decision to continue playing was an easy one to make.

Speaking to, Gilks said: "I'm delighted to have signed up for another year.

"It was never in any doubt and I'm really looking forward to playing my part in the future of this wonderful football club."

Adding to Gilks' comments, manager Evatt said: "We are delighted that Matt's decided to go for one more year.

"He's a vastly experienced player who helped us improve no end last season and was a huge part of our success. We are looking forward to going again next season."
