Lloyd Isgrove is praying his time at Bolton hasn't come to an end, admitting he would like to sign a new deal that would commit his future to the club.

Isgrove, who joined Wanderers last September following his departure from Swindon Town, made 34 appearances during his debut campaign at the University of Bolton Stadium, with the last of his three goals coming in the 4-1 victory at Crawley Town on the final day as the Trotters secured promotion to League One.

The 28-year-old is out of contract on June 30 and is understood to have met with manager Ian Evatt on Monday to discuss his future but - in an interview conducted prior to that meeting - Isgrove believes keeping the current core of players could be vital in any success Bolton achieve next season.

"I only signed for Bolton about six games into the season," Isgrove told The Bolton News.

"I literally didn't have a club and when I came in and I signed for a year just to make sure I got playing again. It was tough.

"There were a lot of issues there at Swindon. Covid was a big one, I think there was a lot of uncertainty, and then there was the chairman (Lee Power). I don't know, the whole thing got messed up. We wanted to stay together but it was a really difficult time.

"And because I had got the promotion it made it feel even stranger because I had expected the group to stay together. I hope that will be the case at Bolton too.

"At the start it wasn't the greatest, but we had a good January, brought in some real quality, and after that people just gelled. They gave the manager their time and we really turned it around.

"If you keep that team together, there are players who have been promoted from League One in there, so I don't see any reason why we won't be right up there again."
