Dennis Politic has stepped up his rehabilitation from a knee ligament injury but remains unlikely to feature in the closing stages of the campaign.

More than six months have passed since Politic tore an anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season friendly at Loughborough University and hopes were raised recently when the 20-year-old posted an image on social media of his return to grass training.

Despite being able to run on the pitches at the club's Lostock training base, Bolton boss Ian Evatt remains cautious over the fitness of the midfielder and is admits he is more than happy to wait until next season rather than risk further serious injury by rushing a return before May.

"I would be amazed if he features in the actual matchday team this season," Evatt told the Manchester Evening News.

"I think we have to do what's right for the player and give him the best chance of recovery.

"Will he be back in full training before the end of the season? Probably. But it's more of a process of building him back up for the start of pre-season, making sure he gets a full pre-season and then next season he can hit the ground running.

"He's doing great. I must say his work ethic and his attitude to rehab has been top class for a young player."
