George Thomason has agreed a new contract with Bolton, who have moved to secure the services of one of their brightest prospects.

Thomason joined Wanderers from Longridge Town in January 2020, signing an 18-month contract which is due to expire at the end of the current campaign.

The 20-year-old made his senior debut in a Papa John's Trophy victory over Newcastle United U21 this past November and has since gone on to make 10 appearances at first-team level, firmly establishing himself as one of the EFL's hottest talents outside of the Championship.

The duration of Thomason's new deal is yet to be publicly disclosed, but Trotters boss Ian Evatt believes the midfielder is more than capable of holding his own in a squad constantly growing in quality.

"He is a wonderful young lad," Evatt told The Bolton News. "He wants to be here for the right reasons and we'll carry on working with him and developing him.

"He has got lots of work to do but he's a fantastic young player.

"When George is in the team he's a wonderful passer, gives us that energy and a bit of solidity.

"We have got Kieran Lee to come back, we've got some very good players in there. That is what we are capable of.

"We've strengthened the squad in January and we're a lot better now we have competition for places. Once they are fit and up to speed we are going to be a force."
