Eoin Doyle became the first Wanderers player to score more than 10 goals in a single season since Chris Eagles, who netted 12 times in 2012/13, with the Irishman giving the Trotters a lead shortly before half-time at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Marcus Maddison was later dismissed on his debut, 12 minutes after coming on as a substitute, and the game ended all-square as Brad Lyons scored with his first touch with seven minutes to play.
