Billy Crellin may yet have a future at Bolton, with manager Ian Evatt saying he will never 'shut the door' on any player.

Crellin joined Wanderers on a season-long loan from Fleetwood Town last August and has made 16 appearances in all competitions, but hasn't featured since a Papa John's Trophy victory over Newcastle United U21 in November after a number of high profile mistakes saw him lose his place in the team.

Matt Gilks has presided over the goalkeeping position ever since and many had expected Crellin to return to his parent club after Lukas Jensen arrived at the University of Bolton Stadium on loan from Burnley on deadline day.

Evatt insists the arrival of the Dane has no bearing on Crellin's status at the club, however, saying each player needs to prove why they deserve a place in his team by training better than each other during the week.

"As I said before, every day is an opportunity to impress and improve," Evatt told The Bolton News.

"Billy has to see that and take it. Just because he is not in the picture at the moment and we have brought Lukas in doesn't mean he can't have an opportunity moving forward.

"I will never shut the door on anyone but you have to earn the right and show me every day in training that you are the best player and leave me with no choice.

"That is the attitude he has to have. Make it impossible for me to ignore you, and that goes for everyone else who isn't in the team as well.

"It doesn't mean train well for one day, it means backing it up day to day and week to week because eventually I will have to let you into the team."
