Ian Evatt has challenged Arthur Gnahoua to earn a regular spot in the Bolton side, after his goal rescued a point in a 1-1 draw at Exeter City.
Gnahoua, who has made 11 appearances in all competitions this season, has started just three times since his summer arrival from Macclesfield Town and his strike at St James Park on Tuesday was his first league goal since netting for his previous club in January 2020.
The 28-year-old has been unavailable due to a dislocated shoulder in recent weeks but after impressing on his return to action, the gauntlet has been thrown down by Evatt as he looks to add competition for places in his team.
"The things he's showing me in training have been excellent," Evatt told the Manchester Evening News.
"He can shoot with both feet and he's got pace.
"His pitch and game intelligence needs to improve and his defensive responsibilities need to improve, but there's a player in there.
"If we can get him confident and doing that - that goal will help - then he's going to be an asset to us."
