Bolton Wanderers have confirmed two members of their first-team squad have tested positive for COVID-19 and have entered a 10-day period of self-isolation.

Over the course of the past week, 3,507 players from 66 EFL clubs have undertaken mandatory testing - 112 of which came back as positive - although Wanderers have declined to name the individuals involved under strict confidentiality legislation.

A statement, posted at, read: "Bolton Wanderers Football Club can confirm the results from the mandatory COVID-19 testing that took place recently for EFL clubs.

"The Club can confirm that two players tested positive during the testing and immediately went into self-isolation in accordance with the protocols.

"We wish those players a full and speedy recovery."

From January 11, 2021, the EFL and Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) will introduce twice-weekly testing for players of all 72 clubs in the Championship, League One and League Two in an attempt to combat the spread of the virus.

Results are to be published each Tuesday, although the EFL have confirmed clubs are under no obligation to release their own individual figures and/or names.
