Bolton's Sky Bet League Two fixture against Morecambe has been postponed following an outbreak of COVID-19 within the Shrimps squad.

Wanderers were due to host Derek Adams' side at the University of Bolton Stadium on Tuesday for what would have been the first-ever competitive meeting of the clubs, but that occasion must now be put back until after the New Year - meaning the Trotters' schedule for 2020 has come to a premature end.

A statement, posted at bwfc.co.uk, read: "Morecambe's next two Sky Bet League Two fixtures have been suspended.

"The Club has advised the EFL it is unable to fulfil the fixtures due to an outbreak of Covid-19, with players and first-team staff required to self-isolate in line with EFL and Government guidance.

"As a result, the upcoming fixtures with Bolton Wanderers and Bradford City scheduled to take place on Tuesday 29 December and Saturday 2 January respectively, have been suspended and the circumstances surrounding the postponements will now be the subject of an investigation in accordance with EFL Regulations.

"Revised dates for the rearranged fixtures will be confirmed in due course."

Ian Evatt's side will now have a full week of training before hosting Crawley Town on Saturday.
