Keith Hill has returned to football management after being appointed by Tranmere Rovers on a deal that runs through until the end of the season.

Hill, who has been out of work since leaving Bolton at the end of June, joins a club currently placed 13th in League Two and with ambitions of promotion despite a difficult start to life in the division following their relegation alongside Wanderers last season.

The 51-year-old will receive an automatic 12-month extension to his contract should he guide Rovers back to the third-tier at the first attempt, something Hill believes he is more than capable of achieving.

"I'm delighted to be joining Tranmere," Hill told tranmererovers.co.uk.

"It's a Club which has the facilities and the players to achieve promotion and that will be my aim.

"I can't wait to get started, and I am only sorry that my first games will be without the supporters in attendance."

Hill will be assisted by Ian Dawes during his stay at Prenton Park, with Andy Parkinson moving into the role of first-team coach.

He will make his first return to the University of Bolton Stadium when Rovers face Bolton on December 19.
