Ian Evatt admitted Bolton's form is 'not good enough' after they were beaten for a fifth consecutive game in all competitions.

After starting the campaign with defeats to Bradford City in the Carabao Cup and Crewe Alexandra in the EFL Trophy, Wanderers have lost their opening three league games to give Evatt an unwanted record of being the only boss in club history to have suffered reverses in his first five games in charge.

Newport County were 2-0 winners at the University of Bolton Stadium on this occasion and the Trotters Head Coach insists his players must give him more if they are to retain their places in the team.

"Not good enough," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube. "(It was) disappointing again.

"All we can do now is keep re-emphasising positive messages.

"We're on a f***ing bad run and things aren't going for us.

"We had an equaliser at 1-1 - the referee is a yard away and doesn't give it, and the linesman who is on the far side with 18 players in front of him somehow gives handball.

"That probably changes the game but we didn't do enough and we have to keep working.

"When the chips are down, the biggest thing is to keep pushing, keep working and keep as positive as we can be. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, it will change.

"They've got to try harder. We want to have this identity and brand but sometimes it matters what is in your chest - which is the heart and desire to win games.

"You have to fight and win scrappy sometimes and we didn't do that today. We weren't quite at our fluid best - we had some good opportunities towards the end of the first-half but we're missing chances we should be taking.

"Then in the second-half we concede a goal and you can see the energy just drain out of people.

"We almost get an equaliser - where we think we have - and that saps you again but we have to mentally stronger than that. We have to be better than that.

"It's just not good enough."
