Ian Evatt's search for a first competitive win as Bolton Head Coach continues on Saturday, when Wanderers return to home soil against Newport County.

Evatt set an unwanted club record last time out, when a 2-0 defeat at Colchester United saw him become the first boss in history to lose his first four games in charge of the Trotters - something only previously achieved by John Bentley during a second spell at the helm in 1887 and 1888, coinciding with the start of the inaugural Football League season.

In contrast, Newport go into the weekend fixture on the back of three consecutive victories in all competitions. The most recent of these came this past Tuesday, when they beat Championship side Watford to progress into the fourth round of the Carabao Cup for the first time.

Occupying 21st place in the early league standings, Bolton currently find themselves at their lowest-ever position and they will be desperate for some upward trajectory.

They remain without the services of both Shaun Miller and captain Antoni Sarcevic, although the duo could come back into contention for next weekend's game with Harrogate Town after returning to grass training during the course of the week.

Callum King-Harmes and George Thomason were recently forced to self-isolate following exposure to the COVID-19 virus, although the duo are unavailable in any case after joining non-league Bamber Bridge on youth loan deals.

Sonny Graham has been back in full training for nearly a fortnight after isolating himself earlier in September, meaning he could win a place amongst the substitutes should midfield options remain light.

A slight tactical switch presented Jak Hickman with a debut last time out and he will be looking to retain his place in defence, where George Taft, Ryan Delaney and Reiss Greenidge are also pushing for recalls.

Liam Edwards and Dennis Politic are both sidelined with long-term knee injuries, while Muhammadu Faal is still out after fracturing his foot in pre-season.
