Ian Evatt described Bolton's performance against Colchester United as the best of his brief time in charge, believing his team were 'mugged' with a 2-0 defeat.

Goals in each half from Tom Eastman and Jevani Brown condemned Wanderers to a fourth consecutive reversal in all competitions, meaning Evatt takes an unwanted club record of being the first manager to lose so many games at the beginning of a first reign.

Speaking after the full-time whistle at the JobServe Community Stadium, Evatt remained positive about the display of his players and retains belief that a first win is on the horizon.

"I thought we completely dominated," Evatt told OfficialBWFC on YouTube.

"I just feel like we've been mugged and robbed, to be honest.

"We dominated the first-half, had the better chances and we've conceded a set-piece right on half-time, which was frustrating.

"Then we completely dominated the second-half and switched off, again, from one long ball and it's another goal.

"But I must say I think that's the best we've played since I've been at the club. It's the best we've played in terms of ball manipulation and possession.

"We looked a threat, a danger and we've just got to stick at it. It's not going for us at the moment, but it will.

"Colchester, at this level, are a very good team and we've completely dictated the speed and pace of the game for 90 minutes.

"It's the first time I've thought we're really progressing. Results-wise it's tough to take at the moment but we'll stick at it because it will change and when it does, we'll be hard to beat.

"You need to take your chances when you get them and stop conceding sloppy, silly goals. Other than that, I don't think Billy (Crellin) has really had a save to make.

"It's a tough lesson and it's a harsh lesson at the moment but there were massive signs of improvement.

"If we play like that for 44 more games, we'll win a lot more than we lose."
