Jason Lowe will be lining up against Bolton next season, after signing for League Two rivals Salford City.

Lowe, whose contract with Wanderers expired over the summer, has signed a three-year deal with the Ammies as manager Graham Alexander looks to build a squad capable of challenging for promotion next term.

The 28-year-old had remained committed to the Trotters during times of despair and had attracted offers from clubs higher up the EFL pyramid, but admits the length of the contract put on the table was one he couldn't afford to turn down.

"It's definitely difficult saying goodbye to Bolton because I absolutely loved playing for the club," Lowe told The Bolton News.

"But I can't turn down a three-year deal in the current situation, and I'm excited about a new project at Salford, knowing the ambition they have there, and the people involved.

"There have been some difficult times at Bolton but I tried to keep my dignity and get through it all as best as we possibly could, and I'd like to thank the fans because they were first class all the way through. I wish them all the very best in the future."

City boss Alexander believes his club have made a statement of intent with the arrival of Lowe, believing the calibre of player currently arriving at Moor Lane will only increase it's appeal for others to follow.

"He's another player we've brought in that fits the profile we've been looking for," Alexander told salfordcityfc.co.uk.

"A sort of captain, leader type to really strengthen the spine of the team; with the other signings we've made we're delighted.

"His playing record is at higher levels than we're currently at, and we've been speaking to him for quite a while now.

"We know we've got the player we originally wanted quite a while ago so we can't wait to get started with him, and we know that he's going to be another brilliant addition to the club."
