Bolton have completed the signing of George Taft, who had been available as a free agent following his release by Cambridge United.

Taft has signed a two-year contract with Wanderers and becomes the third player to join the club since Ian Evatt's appointment as Head Coach - following in the footsteps of both Eoin Doyle and Antoni Sarcevic.

The 26-year-old began his career with hometown club Leicester City but failed to make the grade at senior level, and has spent much of his six years since playing for various clubs in League Two.

A two-year spell at Burton Albion between 2014 and 2016 was wrecked by a cruciate ligament injury, after which he has returned to feature for Mansfield Town and, most recently, Cambridge.

He made 30 appearances in all competitions this past season as the U's finished 16th in the fourth tier and admits the opportunity to play for Bolton was too good to turn down.

"I'm so pleased," Taft told "I'm absolutely buzzing to have signed for this club and get it over the line to be a Bolton Wanderers player.

"The signings Ian has already made show what he is about and what he wants from the season.

"It's going to be exciting to be part of a quality squad of players."

Evatt added to the comments of his latest recruit, saying: "I'm delighted to have signed George, a 6ft 4in tall, left-footed defender who has an excellent pedigree having played for England youth teams and coming through the Leicester City Academy.

"He is at a great age for improvement and has vast experience at this level. Welcome aboard, George!"
