Bolton are set to announce Ian Evatt as their new manager on Wednesday, after reaching an agreement to release him from his contract at Barrow.

Wanderers are understood to have interviewed David Lee, Steven Reid and Michael Jolley in the early stages of last week, but instead shifted focus to their number one target after it became clear a compensation package in the region of just £250,000 would be required to land Evatt and his backroom team - Peter Atherton, Callum Walters and Lewis Duckmanton.

Evatt has since met with officials of Trotters owners Football Ventures, who are now putting the finishing touches to a deal that would see him succeed Keith Hill at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Hill will officially vacate his role when his contract expires at midnight (June 30), paving the way for his replacement to be unveiled on Wednesday morning.
